Mind the Housing Gap! Building Bridges from Just Pet-Friendly to Truly Pet-Inclusive

Housing stakeholders across industries are energized to make rental housing more pet-inclusive, which is vital to ensuring pets and people stay together. This energy is warranted given that owners cite housing-related issues as one of the main reasons for surrendering pet dogs and cats to shelters. Using analysis from the Pet-Inclusive Housing Report and other recent research findings, the discussion will describe the differences between pet-friendly and pet-inclusive rental housing and the massive gap between pet-inclusive housing availability and need. This session will also explore opportunities and challenges related to pet-inclusive efforts, using these insights to inform actions we can all take to accelerate the pet-inclusive housing movement.
